Mountain East Conference: Sports Round Up
Football— Concord University’s football team lost to University of Charleston at Laidely Field Thursday night in the Mountain East Conference. September 14, the Concord Mountain Lions take on their third straight Thursday night game at Callaghan Stadium at 7:00 p.m. hosting UVa.-Wise.
Men’s Soccer— Concord University men’s soccer team played the number-one ranked team in the nation, University of Charleston, on Thursday night in the Mountain East Conference. Taking a tough loss of 4-0, the team travels to Bluefield College, Salem International, and Notre Dame in the upcoming weeks.
Women’s Soccer— Concord University women’s soccer team takes on West Liberty tonight at home, on the Anderson Field at 12:00 p.m.
Volleyball— With a record of 52 kills, and hitting percentage of .390 in the last four matches for Concord University, Junior, Brooke Heck, won Co-MVP. Saturday evening at the Carter Center, the Mountain Lions were 2-2 in the Concord Classic with Heck tallying 12 blocks.
Women’s Cross Country— Sunday morning Concord University’s women’s cross country team earned the top three spots at the Golden Bear Classic. Freshman Sydney Haynes was top runner for her second straight meet, winning the individual title with a time of 15:58 for the 4,000 meter course. Sophomore Aidan Payton came in as second runner up. Junior Bailey Knowles swept the top three places with a time of 16:35. Concord’s cross country team will be traveling to the Stegemoller Classic, Saturday, September 16 in Evansville, Indiana.
Men’s Cross Country— September 12, Senior Justin Snyder was named Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week after completing the 4,000-meter course in 12:36. Concord’s cross country team holds a team victory with a team title of 23-33. The next meet for the Mountain Lions will be September 16 at the Stegemoller Classic in Evansville, Indiana.
Men’s Golf— Concord University men’s golf team placed second in the Battle of the Virginias at Fincastle Country Club on September 11. Concord had shot 842 after rounds of a 412 and 430. Their next match will be on September 25 when they travel to Wally Edgell hosted by Davis & Elkins at Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, West Virginia.
Women’s Golf— Concord University women’s golf team placed 22nd, at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic, September 11 with a tallied two-day score of 797. Their next match will take place September 24 in the Ohio Valley Tournament.
