Wilson Hall Hosts Annual Trick or Treat Night
On Oct. 26, Wilson Residence Hall hosted its annual Trick-or-Treat event from 6-8 p.m. This year, nearly a hundred children from the surrounding area walked door-to-door through the dormitory halls collecting candy and delighting the residents with their creative costumes. Children had the opportunity to high-five the residence staff members, also in costume, have their picture taken in front of a backdrop provided by the Concord University Cheerleading team, and participate in themed activities in the Wilson recreation room.
Since early this month, Wilson Hall residence staff were collecting candy donations from campus, particularly from those who would not be able to participate in the event, to help supply residents and residence staff with enough candy to pass out to all of the children trick or treating.
Many residents dressed up their doors with spooky decorations and some even joined the residence staff members in dressing up in costumes while they passed out candy.
Other student volunteers manned the ground floor and directed families around the building and helped make the evening as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
SGA Business Manager Haley Fields, dressed as a veterinarian and holding a stuffed lion, commented, “This is my first time doing this as an SGA representative. These are great events for students to get involved in because it really helps our connection to our community and really give back. It is a really good way to keep up community ties, especially given the negative light people usually see college kids in.”
“The best part is seeing all the kids in their adorable costumes,” says Resident Assistant Catherina Medaglia, a huge smile on her face while she energetically greeted each kid. Medaglia joined other residence staff members in dressing up as characters from “Winnie the Pooh.”
Erica Garnes, senior at Concord majoring in Communication Arts, says “The best part is seeing everyone coming together as a type of community. Not only do you have people in Wilson taking their time to dress up and pass out candy, but you have students who live in other dorms coming over to pass out candy as well. Everyone works together so seamlessly to make Halloween special for the kids who come out for it. It’s just a wicked time!”
This event will be held next year, and Wilson residence staff will be accepting candy donations again early next October.
