Table Tennis Club Offered at Concord
All table tennis fans can now rejoice as Concord University affiliates a Concord Table Tennis Club.
With 10 members currently active, the club hopes to seek out new members. They have been putting out several flyers and posters that give more information about the club, as well as a Facebook Messenger group called Concord Table Tennis Club. As of now, the Concord Table Tennis Club does not have an official Facebook page.
“It’s more fun than it looks, once you get started. There’s really hard smashes and stuff like that which makes the game more difficult, challenging, and ultimately more exciting,” says freshman Nathaniel Fox, SGA Representative of the Concord Table Tennis Club.
Members of the club want to have fun from playing table tennis, and they also see the club as a means of getting better through practice. Several of the members are skilled players who play table tennis regularly in their spare time. Along with their skill, and the skill of other players who will visit CU, the Table Tennis Club can offer a great deal of practice for any member.
Activities with the club will include training, regular matches, and competitions to compare how experienced some players are over other players. One of the club’s main goals was to talk to the administration and about having a team that could represent Concord University in state competitions. Fox says the team would need more members before they could do that, however, plans for events are still in the process for the Table Tennis Club. For now, they are set on having a tournament between all the active table tennis players to see who the best players are, and have some members be teachers to other students.
“I feel like it’s going to help people kind of come out more…I think if there’s a club they will have an opportunity to learn,” says senior Aaron Mattox, also a member of the Concord Table Tennis Club. He hopes along with Fox, that this club helps more people have fun playing table tennis and helps them get better at playing table tennis. “I think it would be a really good thing going on for this campus, [and] to get more people in the game room,” adds Mattox. He believes table tennis is a game that gets more fun as a person gets more skilled at it.
Every member never actually thought about forming a table tennis club, yet they would always play a lot. Due to so many people going in the game room to play table tennis and the need to know who wants to play, forming a club served as a way of keeping the players connected and informed on who wants to play table tennis. Now all of the players who are in the club can have set times to play and not be clueless about who wants to play, that way there’s always some members free to play a game.
Mattox feels this club will grow quite a bit in the near future. Table tennis seems to be an engaging game that almost always takes place whenever people are in the game room. Now that there is a club revolving around such an enjoyable game, it will surely gain a lot of interest from the casual players who visit the game room.
“I think the more people come out, the bigger this club is going to get. We have a lot of fun members and we have a really good time playing,” concludes Mattox. For any players interested in honing their skills, they can get in contact with Nathaniel Fox at his email Foxs05@mycu.concord.edu.
