Music Discovery Days Come to CU
It floats through the air and enters our soul. It can be inspiring, motivational, and even spiritual. Music is the sound of culture. And Concord University’s Athens campus is featuring the first ever annual Music Discover Day. On October 17th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., high school students interested in music are invited to tour the campus beautiful. All prospective juniors and seniors will begin their day of activities by checking in at the Alexander Fine Arts Center in the lobby. From there, the music department as well as the admissions and financial aid departments will host a presentation. Afterwards, students can observe Music Theory III.
At 11 o’clock, a complimentary lunch will be served in the student cafeteria. During that time, you are welcome to speak to current Concord students about their experience at the university. After lunch, participants can choose to either take a tour of the campus or take part in a choir rehearsal. Then, a faculty and staff performance will be held, and once again participants can choose to either take a tour of the campus or take part in band rehearsal. At 3:00 p.m., there will be closing remarks. If you so choose, there is an optional half an hour music lesson with faculty of Concord which will take place after the closing remarks. Instruments will include woodwind, brass, piano, and percussion as well as voice.
“We are excited to welcome everyone to our beautiful campus and hopefully they will love it as much as we do,” says Dr. Womack, the primary organizer of Music Discover Day. Music Discover Day and all activities are free. However, you must RSVP. This can be done by calling (304) 384-5275 or visiting www.concord.edu/visit. For more information, call (304) 384-5275.
