The Student Government Association met on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, to announce and welcome the Student Government's new executive board. The voting process began for this new Executive Board on Wednesday, March 25, and lasted until Friday, March 27.
After all of the votes were cast and tallied, the results stood as follows: Ronni Wood was elected as President; Ryan Lilly was elected Vice President; the new Business Manager will be Mikela Schaffer; Adam Rose was elected as SGA Board of Governors Representative; Saul Harlow was elected as Student Conduct Officer; Bobby Erickson was elected Student Advocate; and Chris Poore and Caitlyn Rakes were elected as Delegates. In addition, George Myer was elected Commuter Delegate and Shelby Yancey was elected as Commissioner for this semester.
With many of the current administration on its way towards graduation, and with the term coming to an end, the elections were needed. The new Executive Board is very eager to begin work in the coming semester. “I am excited about my new position,” said newly-elected Adam Rose, “Though if I may be perfectly honest, I am also a little bit nervous. This is a very important position that the student body has vested in me. I only hope that I am able to meet or exceed the expectations that have been laid out before me. However, I am also excited to serve the students here at Concord University, and am looking forward to doing the right thing in this new position that I find myself in.”
Rose was quick to explain the inner working of the SGA Constitution on the electoral process. “I, and the rest of the new Executive Board, had to fill out applications and we also had to ensure we were all qualified for the job as laid out in the SGA’s Constitution and By-Laws.”
As for what the pre-requisites for running for SGA according to the Constitution, Rose said, “In order to run for an Executive Board Position, you must first serve on the senate for at least one semester. You must also maintain an overall GPA of 2.50, as well as be in good standing with the University. Since I met all of the requirements, I was able to run, and here I am!”
President-to-be Ronni Wood also had some thoughts about her experience running and the hopes for her future presidency. “The position of President of the SGA means a lot to me, as does the SGA itself,” Wood stated, “I'm really looking forward to next year, and I have a few ideas in the works for some more projects for my executive board to work on.”
However, Wood is aware that the future is never certain. “Nothing is set in stone yet, though, so I can't give many details. But I'd love to encourage students who have any ideas.”
The future President was adamant on her willingness to take criticism. “I’m also open to students stopping to talk to me about things if they run into me. I would also love to remind students that if there are complaint boxes all around campus, and that we would love for them to utilize them. We look at all of the complaints and see what we can do about them, so even if we don't get to them before this year is over, we'll definitely look into them next year.”
The other members of the new Executive Board unfortunately could not be reached for comment. However, if the enthusiasm of Ronni Wood and Adam Rose is any indication, then the SGA is in very capable hands.
