Open Mic and Slam a Hit

By Ronni Wood
On March 9, 2015

Concord University’s Black Student Union hosted an Open Mic Night and Poetry Slam at
Subway Stage in the Student Center Thursday, February 26. The event asked for students to
come up on stage and share original poetry, rap, or other verse.
Around forty people were in the crowd in front of the stage to listen to students. The
crowd was generally supportive as well, clapping and cheering for everyone who got up on stage
to show their talents.
Not only does this event help bring awareness for the BSU and any future events they
might want to do, it also shines a light on the art side of Concord. Coming the day before the
BSU’s Umoja Ball, it also helped to get students more excited about the next event.
