CU football stays on top
The Concord University football team held steady at number two in the NCAA Division II Super Region One rankings Monday while they moved up two spots in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll to number 13.
A week after the initial regional rankings slotted the Mountain Lions second regionally, CU held strong in the two spot after defeating UVa.-Wise 30-13 Saturday to improve to 9-0 this season.
The other perfect team in the region, Bloomsburg, was ranked ahead of Concord. West Chester, Winston-Salem State, California (Pa.) and American International completed the top six. Shepherd, Virginia State, Slippery Rock and Charleston rounded out the top 10. The top six teams in each super region will earn a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs at the conclusion of the season with the top two teams in each region receiving a bye.
Meanwhile, Concord jumped two spots in the coaches poll after its performance against UVa.-Wise. Concord received 383 points in the Top 25 poll.
Concord is one of six programs in the nation to begin the 2014 season with a 9-0 record and just one of seven teams to still be undefeated across Division II football. Additionally, the 2014 Mountain Lions are the first CU team to start win nine or more games in a season since 1987 when Concord went 10-2.
CU will host its final regular season home game of the year Saturday when they welcome in Notre Dame College for a 12:00 start at Callaghan Stadium.
