Staff Spotlight
Lora Woolwine
As the Executive Secretary to the President, Mrs. Lora Woolwine has a position that she describes as both challenging and rewarding.
“Along with my outstanding coworker, Trena Stovall, I do a variety of tasks that include managing the President’s daily calendar, answering phones, and greeting visitors. I assist students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors with special concerns or problems.”
The variety of daily activities that Lora and Trena assist in everyday keep their jobs interesting and makes the day fly by.
“Our office is responsible for planning and executing several special events for the President such as Commencement, Freshman Convocation, and Founders’ Day.” Woolwine says.
Woolwine acts as a liaison to a multitude of different offices in order to help them resolve issues that may arise. She manages the maintenance and activity schedule for the President’s Home, is a liaison for the Board of Governors, assisting with scheduling meetings and handling the maintenance of official minutes, reports and policies, and helps the President and her Cabinet with vital reports that are due to outside agencies such as West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
Dr. Kendra Boggess, President of the University, describes Woolwine as a “wonderful, friendly, well-informed Executive Secretary to the President.”
Boggess says, “Lora is a problem solver who handles every situation using excellent organizational skills, enthusiasm, and a cheerful attitude. She is an excellent representative for the University!”
Woolwine’s favorite part of her job is the ability to make a difference in someone else’s life. The only thing she dislikes about her job is knowing that there is only so much she can do to help, and that there will always be someone that she can’t assist.
Outside of Concord, Woolwine enjoys spending time with her husband and family. “I love to craft and sew. I enjoy all kinds of music and play the saxophone. I also enjoy reading and working logic puzzles.”
Woolwine is a 2001 graduate of Concord College with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. After graduation, she worked for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources as a child protective service worker.
After leaving the department, a Resident Director position became available at Concord and she had always wanted an opportunity to “come back home” to Concord. She was a Resident Director for several years until the Executive Secretary position came open and applied for it.
While she isn’t directly working in a social work field, Woolwine says, “I believe that I use my degree every day. Resource management, counseling, mediation, and advocacy are the foundation of everything that do.”
