Concord University to present 'Violauta Duo’

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University Artist Performance Series presents Marshall University faculty members Wendell Dobbs and Julio Alves, who are members of the “Violauta Duo,” Oct.7 at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Main Auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center on Concord’s main campus located at 1000 Vermillion St. in Athens, W.Va.

       Wendell Dobbs is a flutist who performs regularly in solo and chamber venues and currently teaches at Marshall University. Julio Alvez is a guitarist who has performed in several Brazilian cities and also teaches at Marshall University. Together the two musicians created the duo whose name is coined from the Portuguese words for guitar (violão) and flute (flauta).

The duo will be performing from a wide variety of repertoire from various ethnicities. They are particularly interested in playing pieces specifically written to unite the beautiful sounds of the guitar and the flute.
