Marsh Library to welcome
Concord University’s Library is in the process of renovating and updating what is soon to be “The West Virginia Room.”
This room will provide students with a quiet, comfortable place to study. This space will be ideal for both individual studying or study groups.
The West Virginia Room will also be rich in West Virginia history for students who are interested in learning more about the state’s background.
The idea to create this room was inspired by plans to make the library more user-friendly and less inaccessible to the students.
Now, instead of chasing down a staff member and having to send them on a hunt for the necessary materials, students will have access to all the books and materials they may need in their studies.
Besides the obvious benefits of giving students a pleasant academic environment, the room will provide other commodities that will be helpful for students.
Connie Shumate, Library Director, is particularly excited about the prospect of West Virginia’s history being displayed in the new room. She hopes that browsing the history of the state will instill a sense of pride in students attending the university, whether they are a native West Virginian or not.
As far as further renovations to the library, Shumate feels the library will be complete after the completion of the West Virginia Room.
Any further changes made to the library will be solely for the purpose of improving the quality of student life. Every student is encouraged to visit the West Virginia Room upon its completion and to pay special attention to the histori- cal displays set up around the library.
Students are also invited to check out the other renovations that the library has undergone in the recent past and give their comments about the library’s attempts to improve accessibility and convenience.
