Marsh Library continues to see renovations

As those returning to the campus from the last year are surely aware, the library has been going through extensive renovations.

What once was a new and spiffy facility had since de- graded to the point where it might have become a potential hazard to students. Being

an older building at this point, there was danger from asbestos, lead, and other assorted harmful products. So naturally, renovations were planned out and prepared. Over the course of several years, the library has essentially been recreated from practically the ground up.

The stairwell has been redone, and new railing has been put in place. Though the stairs areessentially new, the bronze lions that adorn the entrance are still present and as fearsome as ever. The stone that used to be the steps have now been replaced with brick. The ceiling was completely torn out, new insulation was put in, and air condition was installed. This was done during summertime, so students would not be placed in an area where they could have been potentially exposed to asbestos. Prolonged exposure to asbestos can cause cancer and mesothelioma; so naturally, it had to be done when students were away from the campus.

In addition to the railing and the steps, the benches were re- turned to the top of the steps to suit the students’ needs. The carpets were ripped up and re- placed with new ones, adding a modern flair to a very oldbuilding. The new carpet has been added onto both floors of the library. Besides this, the entire building has been repainted. Indeed, the library is now fully equipped to deal with the coming and going of students for many more years to come.
