Concord cares a ton

Since the beginning of the Fall 2014 semester, the University 100 class taught by Mr. Steve Jarvis and Mrs. Tammy Monk have been collaborating on an upcoming community project. The class had the option of participating in a selection of community projects already scheduled, but instead this class stepped outside of the box, created, and set in motion a community project of their own. “Concord Cares A Ton” is the name of the project that was selected by the class.
The set objective is to accumulate 2,000 pounds (a ton) of canned food and non-perishable food items. According to Monk, the food drop-off boxes will be set up in various places around campus, including: The Student Center, the Library, The Admin Building, the Daycare, and Rahall Atrium. The proceeds from this drive are will benefit The Salvation Army and The Union Mission.
This is an amazing cause in which the campus community can partake and is especially meaningful with cold weather and the holidays fast approaching. In regards to reaching the goal Monk says, “With more than 2,800 students attending this university, if each student were to donate just one can, we would far exceed the set goal.” This event will kick off October 1st and will run through the 31st. The community can also make cash donations, as they will be recorded transactions and used solely for the cause.  All proceeds go towards a most-deserving cause and anything donated is most appreciated.
