For this week’s student organization spotlight we are recognizing the Blue Key Men’s Honor Society. Not just any average student organization. Blue Key is a national honor society and is the oldest organization on campus. Composed of the most elite men, Blue Key is totally up on their game. Seeing that Blue Key is a national honor society, there are certain requirements for those wanting to become a member. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and you have to be vouched by a junior member.
Right now Blue Key is doing the “We Can Gift Cards” raffle. Any students that have passed through the Student Center the past few days most likely saw them selling raffle tickets in the Ground Lobby, 1st Floor. There have also been e-mails sent to students telling of the “We Can Gift Cards” raffle. As for the weeks to follow, the guys will keep doing raffles and fundraisers to benefit towards certain things. Steven Miller, President of Blue Key, describes it as a group that likes to do a lot of social events and fundraisers. He says they also like to do things like community service to help out and they help each other as well. Coming up very soon for Blue Key is an on-campus event called Meet The Mayor. This is an event where Carol Bard, Mayor of Athens, will come to the Concord campus, and students will have a chance to meet and greet. It will serve as a chance to ask the mayor questions pertaining to the community and what she has in store to help improve the Town of Athens. During the holidays, Blue Key will be doing a Salvation Army event where they will collect presents to give to less fortunate children.
The Blue Key Men’s Honor Society currently doesn’t have any trips scheduled up to this point. For conferences though, they have the annual national conference which is scheduled to take place in Atlanta, Georgia in December. Last year, the conference was held in Fargo, North Dakota. The members of the Blue Key Men’s Honor Society are quite dedicated to the betterment of the community in any way possible. Concord is lucky to have an organization such as Blue Key serving the community and beyond on the University’s behalf.
