University Introduces new event calendar
Concord University strives to find better ways to serve their students. One of the many ways they do this is through implementing new and improved technology.
The most recent technological improvements on campus is the new calendar that is available through the University website. This new feature was brought about through the collaborative efforts of Concord’s web developer, Larry Zande, and Carolyn Worley, Administrative Assistant in the Student Center.
Jamie Boggs, Director of Application & Web Development, stated, “We are excited about the new calendar for students and cannot wait to implement more features as we move forward. We met with campus constituents earlier this year to select a calendaring system that improved our previous one but was reasonably priced.”
The new calendar has many new features that will make it easier to use and more efficient for students. There are multiple calendar views which include a summary, the full calendar, a list with a mobile-friendly design, and also a print friendly version of the calendar to use for a full month.
New advanced filtering and search options will make finding events easier for both students and staff. With the advanced notifications and subscriptions, this will allow for smoother communication regarding upcoming events as they are posted, This way, any changes made to events will be sent directly to those who are interested or subscribed. Boggs states, “I encourage you to subscribe to our new calendar to be notified of all upcoming events.”
The new calendar also has the ability to include the social media integration tool. There are built-in sharing options for many social media platforms, including geo-locations and venue photos in order to make it easier for attendees to find the location.
The final new feature now available is the online event RSVP registration system with built in ticketing options. This new system will help to streamline the event process for many organizations on campus.
To access the calendar, students and staff can simply go to the University’s home page, scroll down, and click “View Calendar of Events.” Many other improvements will be added to the calendar in the future, including a more prominent homepage feature of immediate events. Another goal is to launch department-driven sub-calendars with appropriate event categories.
