Rotaract Club Seeks New Members for Fall Semester
The Rotaract Club at Concord University is currently seeking new members for the 2017-2018 academic year. The Club welcomes members with a strong interest in community service, professional development, and networking. As a part of a larger organization, it focuses on growing in leadership and service. Ideally, members will be ready to share “the 4 Ts—time, talent, treasure, and thought.”
Concord is sponsored by the Princeton Rotary Club and is an affiliate of Rotary International.
The organization was started in 1968, with the first club chartered in North Carolina. It was comprised of adults from ages 18 to 30 at both a college and community level. Now the organization is an international network with over 8,000 clubs in 167 countries.
The purpose of the club is to provide opportunities for young men and women to enhance both knowledge and skills that assist in personal growth and development, the needs of their communities, and as well to promote better relations with all people worldwide through friendship and service. This is done through a series of meetings, speakers, community service projects, and other activities.
As a student at Concord there are many reasons to get involved. The Rotaract Club helps develop professional and leadership skills, provides the opportunity to be involved with service projects, gain new respect for the rights of others, promote ethical standards and dignity, and to provide students an outlet to address the concerns of their community and world. Current club members will be asked to help with ideas on how to recruit new members as well as what service projects they would like to take on this year. Co-Advisor Dr. Deb Halsey-Hunter said that while she and co-advisor Gina Bogguss “try to spur their thinking as to projects and while we have ideas, again we want students to come up with ideas that they an interest in.” The club is not only structured around the Rotaract philosophies and moto but also the needs of the students.
The club plans to have campus, local, and global community service projects throughout the academic year. These projects will be chosen by club members. Club membership will also help to build student resumes, as well as provide an opportunity for professional networking. If a student would so choose to after graduation they could ultimately join a community Rotary club.
For more information on how to get involved with the Rotaract Club please contact Dr. Deb Halsey- Hunter at dhunter@concord.edu or Gina Boggess.
