Homecoming Picnic Brings the Campus Together
Homecoming is a time of celebration for everyone. On Wednesday, October 12 many people enjoyed the picnic held in the Valley behind the Student Center, one of many Homecoming traditions that was held during the week.
A picnic gives people the time to gather with friends and family and to create fond memories. Anyone who has been to a picnic knows that they allow for socialization and good times for everyone involved, and a Homecoming week on any college campus is a good time to create fond memories. The picnic gave many students the time to see and talk with friends and to get more of a feeling for the Homecoming week and the other events that were planned.
The picnic served delicious-smelling foods, such as burgers and hotdogs. The grill gave off a mouth-watering smell that would have made anyone hungry. After getting a fill of the main dishes, people who attended the picnic could get dessert, as well. Along with the food provided by the Concord University cafeteria, people could enjoy several other aspects of the picnic.
Music was playing loud enough for people for hear and to encourage anyone nearby to come join the picnic. Some people even danced to the music. Everyone could play games that were available, including corn-hole. Murals from different sororities and fraternities were on display for everyone to see and to showcase the creative side of Concord students.
Perhaps the best thing about the picnic, however, was that it allowed everyone to enjoy the beautiful day. Instead of sitting in their dorm rooms and watching television, students came out and joined the Homecoming picnic to celebrate the week. Luckily, the weather was perfect; the sun was shining and the Fall weather was nice and cool. The changing leaves provided lovely scenery to all in attendance.
The Valley allowed plenty of room for everyone to play games, eat and socialize. Emily Short, a freshman, enjoyed her first time at the picnic. “I actually like how it is outside. I thought this was the perfect place to see everything,” says Short. The day of the picnic gave people time to enjoy the day.
Many people came out for the Homecoming picnic. One student, Erica Garnes, was invited to the picnic by a friend and believed that other people would enjoy the picnic. “They have some time to spend with friends and to meet new people. This is a laid-back day,” says Garnes.
Of course the picnic is not the only event that people went to during Homecoming week. The parade was one event many people were looking forward to. “I am really looking forward to the parade,” says Short. The other events included during Homecoming week that people looked forward to were the Lip-Sync, Blacklight Bingo, and the Bonfire.
The weekend before Homecoming was Fall Break which gave students a much needed break from the stress of classes and midterms. After returning to Concord, many students saw the week of Homecoming as an easy way to ease back into the schedule of classes and campus life. “It has been an easy week to breeze back into after Fall Break,” says Garnes. A picnic is a great way to relax and enjoy any free time students may have had in the week. It was also good timing since fall is the latest time of the year to have a picnic before winter.
The Homecoming picnic had a good crowd that clearly had opportunities for a memorable afternoon and a Homecoming week at Concord University.
