Holiday Card Photo Contest Winners Announced
The winners of Concord University’s Holiday Card Photo Contest have been announced.
Doug Moore is the winner for the Faculty/Staff category. Linh Nguyen is the winner for the Student category and Anthony Woodyard is the winner for the Alumni/Friends category. This year’s theme for the Holiday Card Photo Contest was Building Memories. Participates were asked to submit pictures that were related to Concord University. The photos could have been of the grounds at Concord, a graduation ceremony, or even an alumni gathering.
The contest gave everyone, including those who do not attend Concord University but love the college, the chance to show the best photos they had of Concord. The goal of the contest was to show what people love about Concord University and why it is a beautiful place. Pictures could have been from anytime of the year.
Participates who submitted photos learned about the contest from flyers, Facebook, and word of mouth. Emails had been sent out as well, and information was posted on Concord University’s website. The winners were shocked and pleasantly surprised when they learned that their submissions had won.
Doug Moore is an Information Systems Specialist for the library and had never entered a photo contest until the Holiday Card Photo Contest. When Moore won the contest he says that he was surprised and would recommend the contest to others. “It’s always surprising to find out how talented people are that otherwise you’d never have known,” says Moore. Winners of the contest received prizes. This year’s prizes were donated. Moore won a Concord shirt from the bookstore.
Photos of Concord University show exactly why Concord is known as the “Campus Beautiful.” In some of the classrooms on campus there are old photos that on display that show how Concord has grown over the years and why it is still loved by the community and those who attend.
If, in the future, Concord University does this contest again, people are welcomed to participate. “If the next contest is similar in that photos will be used to benefit the campus then it’s a no-brainer. If it’s simply for a prize then at least it spurs you to be creative or to at least keep trying for your own personal benefit if nothing else,” says Moore. Any reason for entering the contest still allowed people to be creative and show their love for Concord.
Linh Nguyen was the winner for the Student Category and is a Finance major. This was her first photography contest. “I think it is a fun activity and contest which allows everyone to take part in, and share their perfect moment of the school or capture their favorite moment,” says Nguyen. Nguyen won a $50 gift card from the bookstore.
Photography is a wonderful hobby that allows people to capture a perfect moment before it slips away. Fond memories are treasured and kept for friends and family to see and enjoy for years. “Though photography is not my major but it is one of my hobbies, and I love taking photos, especially photos of the nature, or the view,” says Nguyen.
The winning pictures may be published in the Concord Magazine. Credit will be given to the photographers.
Next time you’re walking around or doing anything, take a look around and see if there is a good photo opportunity. It could be entered into a photo contest.
