Problems For Asian Students: Part 2
Q: Hi, Hyeji. Would you introduce yourself?
A: HI, I’m from Bucheon city ( near Seoul ), South Korea. And I am an exchange student. I’m from Kangwon National University. I stay here for 1 year. My major is English Language & Literature and I want to be an English & Korean translator.
Q: When was your first day to come to USA?
A: I came here August 14th, 2016. My first city was San Francisco. I traveled that place with another South Korean exchange student, Heejin Eom, and it was wonderful despite the relatively colder weather than Korea. We went and saw a lot of attractions. There were lots of tall buildings and a great river. Best thing that I have seen in the San Francisco was Golden Gate Bridge. It was cool as I saw in the picture or television. I want to travel San Francisco again!
Q: Do you miss your country? As you know a lot of international students miss their country.
A: Yes. I really do miss South Korea. I want to go back to my country as soon as possible until now. But I think I can overcome it. The reason why I miss my country is that the foods here are not my style. Also, here, Athens is a small city.
Q: What made you come here?
A: I am an exchange student. I did want to come to America for my English because I want to be the English & Korean translator. Also, I think here Concord University can help me to learn English well.
Q: There are many schools in USA. Is there any reasons that you came to Concord University?
A: I got a scholarship. I didn’t have to pay for tuition and I just had to pay for dorm fees and dining fees. So it was the best option and cheapest. Also, the reviews of this school was great and my TOEFL score is suitable with Concord University.
Q: How do you like it here?
A: Nature is so pretty and gorgeous. When I was in Korea, I couldn’t see the stars because I lived in the crowded city. It was my first time to see a lot of stars in Concord University. And air is so clean. I feel healthy by myself. Whenever I go outside the view is so romantic and pretty. Also, the people around here are so kind and nice. What I learn here is cool and attractive. I do love Concord University. However, tons of assignments makes me insane. Oh! I want to make some announcement! I hope that I want to make a lot of friends in here and get some unforgettable memories while I’m living in here!
Q: What are the hard things for you here? I mean the kind of challenges that you face.
A: I have been here only for 3 weeks, but I felt some kind of hard things. First of all, there are nothing around here to entertain. I really do want to go to the Karaoke. Second, I cannot use the transportation during the weekend. It is kind of hard for me to go to the Walmart or Kroger because I cannot use the transportation on weekend. I don’t have a lot of free time on week. Third, there’s nothing here which is running for 24hours (for example: convenience store, pubs.)
