Taste of Memphis is going strong with their homemade barbeque meals and have been for the last 12 years in Princeton, W.V.
Taste of Memphis is a family business who is owned by father-son duo Steve and Seth Price, natives of Princeton. Seth attended Marshall University to obtain his double degree in marketing and management. When Seth finished at MU, he returned home to work at the family business. Years ago Steve traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked at many restaurants in the area to learn the art of barbecue. He then returned to Princeton, W.V, and noticed there was no one else in the area that was serving barbecue and decided to take the lead. This was when Taste of Memphis was born.
Seth is heavily involved in the business and helps all around the business. The many skills needed for the business, he said, are people skills to help provide great customer service. “It’s not the kind of job where you sit at a desk all day. It’s really fast paced,” Seth said.
The main food for the restaurant is barbecue. Steve said that all the meat is cooked fresh in Memphis style and hickory smoked. He said instead of sauce from a can and other foods from bags the sauce is homemade and so are many of the other sides.
The barbecue selection is great at the restaurant. It includes ribs, pulled chicken and pork, and kielbasa. “Taste of Memphis” serves many other food including wings, chicken, club sandwiches, corndogs and hotdogs, hamburgers, and chicken fingers. They also have specialties such as BBQ nachos, giant baked potatoes, fried green tomatoes, and shell salad. The restaurant also serves many sides like, fries, hushpuppies, homemade chips and slaw, cinnamon apples, baked beans, potato salad, corn on the cob, and mashed potatoes.
Seth loves providing a good product for the people and believes food always brings people together. In addition, they are involved in the community through donations to local schools, sports teams and churches. Seth said that what he would like from the community is their support. A restaurant is centered on feeding their customers and their support is needed for that to continue. “We really appreciate our customers. They are great people,” Seth said.
Taste of Memphis offers catering and also party combos for two, six, or ten people. You can purchase pork or chicken by the pound, family meals, buns and sauce to go as well.
