It never fails. It is late at night, and I’m in my bedroom in Towers, either trying to edit an essay, get math homework done, or simply trying to sleep. Suddenly, I’m awakened by a gang of drunkards back from a long night of hard partying. This would not be so bad if they just decided to go to bed and call it a night. However, they continue to holler and scream and yell obscenities at each other for a solid hour before they decide to turn in.
Ever since the school year has begun, this sort of distracting commotion has been the ire of many a resident, both on and off-campus. While I am no saint and have no right to judge people, this kind of behavior is very distracting to students and townspeople who are simply trying to live their lives in peace.
There is nothing more annoying or bothersome than a bunch of hard party goers returning to campus and shouting and arguing at the top of their lungs while one is simply trying to get work done.
Residents are taking notice. In case students don’t know, several elderly people live within the town of Athens, and are simply not used to such disturbances so early in the morning. These party goers simply do not care, preferring to make fools of themselves in front of their peers. I am not one to assume anything, as previously stated. However, it is irresponsible to party in this manner every night for close to a week straight.
College is a once in a lifetime experience that for many, can never be repeated. To the people acting in this manner, I address you directly: would you not like to actually remember what you did in college? Earning a degree is expensive, and wasting your time drinking when you have obligations is a good way of wasting money.
Your parents (and yourself) ponied up good money to come to this institution so that you might make something of yourself and better your chances of advancement within the workforce.
You are not only doing yourself a disservice by completely making a fool of yourself, you are also disappointing those that worked to help put you into Concord University.
Many people that go to Concord University are the first generation in their respective families to go to college. To those that are causing trouble on campus: have you no shame? Too many people have sweated and bled and worked their fingers to the bone to get you where you are now for you to (for lack of a better term) waste it on alcohol, marijuana, and hard partying.
If you care not for your family or for the residents or for other students, at least realize that what you are doing is dangerous.
