People nowadays are obsessed with their smartphones. The internet and the smartphone were developed surprisingly quickly, and as time passed by, social networking services developed as well. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter are the most prominent social media platforms, and most people have an account on at least one of them.
The hardware of smartphones developed incredibly quickly, and by using various applications, our lives have become more than we could have imagined they would be just a few years ago. Smartphones have a lot of functions. They contain a music player, an internet browser, messaging application, and many more. The smartphone is loved by many.
According to the statistics, more than half of the population is using a smartphone. So we in the world are living it what is called the “smart generation.” People use their smartphone when they are walking on the street, driving in their car, taking the subway and bus; almost everywhere you go you can find someone using a smartphone. Sometimes it seems like people cannot live without their smartphones.
As a lot of researchers indicate, although smartphones have many functions, they can also trigger a lot of problems related to addiction and disorders. One of the most prominent problems is called ‘smartphone addiction’ which is a very hot issue nowadays. According to the research, the issue is more serious in teenagers and people in their twenties than in adults in their 30s and 40s.
These problems arise as a side-effect of abusing the smartphone, and can lead to much more serious problems. For example, some people watching a video on their smartphone in their car may cause them to have a car accident.
From kindergarten students to full-grown adults, people are becoming increasingly obsessed with smartphones and social networking and they can become aggressive when they are deprived of it. Professors have had to ban the use of smartphones in classrooms because many students are easily distracted by them.
Smartphone and social networking addictions can be very bad for your health. It can cause sleep disorders, bone deformations, and psychological problems. According to research based on teenagers, it says abusing the smartphone can cause addiction, poor relationships and social skills, depression, compulsion, and sleep disorders. It says compulsion and depression are the most reported diseases.
Nowadays, however, it is almost impossible not to use a smartphone. Almost every business, and many communications are done over social media and through smartphones, so in this modern era, we have to have one. Simply just ‘NOT USING IT’ cannot be the wise solution to avoid a smartphone or social media addiction.
The best ways to avoid smartphone addiction are to limit the time and place where the smartphone is used, and to and make sure ourselves that we are not overly obsessed with it. We should have face-to-face conversations with people around us in our daily lives and restrict ourselves from using our smartphones and accessing social media when we are hanging out or talking with friends or family.
