RETRACTION: Two courses, Intro to Pilates and Ballet and Hawaiian History and Dance, were mistakenly credited to Linwood Clayton. These classes are actually taught by Lynn Clayton. The Concordian apologizes for this error.
There are lots of fun and interesting classes here at Concord University. The University that I used to go did not have many fun classes like Concord does, so the first time I came here, I was very impressed. So I wanted to introduce some of the lesser-known classes offered here at Concord University.
1) Intro to Pilates & Ballet
A Recreation and Tourism Management class, it is held every Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 2 P.M. and ending at 3:15 in the Dance Studio in the Carter Building with instructor Lynn Clayton. She teaches theories of pilates and ballet, including a kind of history and the muscles used. Students are expected to take notes since she gives quizzes on the information, but if you listen to what she says carefully, you can get a great grade. After students learn the theories, they perform pilates and ballet. She teaches basic motion. The thing that she emphasizes is diligent attendance. Those interested can sign up using CRN 10458 for RTM 360-06
2) Yoga
Offered by the Physical Education department, the class is held Tuesdays from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M., also at the Dance Studio in Carter Building. Professor Elmore’s goal is to show students motions and exercises for them to follow and learn. The motions may be a little bit hard for students who are not used to the movements, and a yoga mat is required to take this class. Students wishing to sign up can do so using CRN 10096 for PED 225-20.
3) Hawaiian History & Dance
Another Recreation and Tourism Management class, it is offered Thursdays from 6 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. in ADMIN 110. Also taught by Lynn Clayton, students learn about Hawaiian history and will take a quiz every week. But if students focus on the history time, they can get a good grade. After the history, the professor teaches the Hawaiian dances. There are various kinds of dance to enjoy. Quizzes, however, only include the history and theory of the dance and not the dance itself. Interested students can register using CRN 10460 for RTM 360-22
4) Collegiate Singers
Offered by the Music department Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:00 P.M. to 12:50 P.M in the Fine Arts building, Professor Hudson teaches students many different songs. The choir’s repertoire includes “Three Madrigals”, “Take, O take those lips away” “Blow, blow, thou winter wind”, “If we Shadows have offered”, “Orpheus with his lute”. The choir performs concerts every semester, and this semester will be performing Thursday, November 3rd at 7:00 P.M., and Tuesday, November 29 in the Chapel at University Point. Students wishing to join the choir can register for MUS 451-01 using CRN 10300
