The Concord University football continues to climb the ranks in the American Football Coaches (AFCA) Division II poll.
This week the Mountain Lions check in at number 15 after defeating Charleston 24-20 Saturday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium.
CU made its biggest jump in the poll since entering the poll four weeks. Concord jumped four spots from last week and improved to 8-0 this season. The Mountain Lions are just one of seven teams to sport an 8-0 record this season.
In the win over UC, sophomore quarterback Brian Novak threw for three touchdowns including the go-ahead score to sophomore wide receiver Davon McGill with 1:51 left in the game. Junior running back Calvinaugh Jones rushed for a season-high 171 yards while redshirt freshman defensive back Jeremiah Johnson tallied his third interception of the season by picking off a pass with less than a minute left in the game to preserve the win.
Concord was joined in the poll by fellow Mountain East Conference school Shepherd, who is ranked 21.
The Mountain Lions will take to the road this week when they travel to UVa.-Wise for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
