BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Junior forward Kari Simon of the Concord University women's soccer team claimed Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
The honor is Simon's second of the season after she won the award Sept. 8. In two games this week, Simon tallied two goals and an assist as the Mountain Lion went 2-0 with wins against Shepherd, 2-1, and West Liberty, 4-3.
In beating WLU, Simon scored the first two CU goals in the first half and assisted on Chloe Barber's second half goal that ended up being the game winner.
With her five points, the Mineral Wells, West Virginia native now has 47 points in her Concord career, 10th all-time. She also tied former Concord player Kelsey Ballard on the career goals list for sixth with 20 goals. For the season, Simon has six goals and three assists to lead the Mountain Lions in scoring with 15 points. Her scoring prowess has given CU a 4-2 start to the season and 2-1 record in the MEC. Concord will next play Urbana Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Field.
